A phenomenon in Amsterdam
Huge, arched, stained-glass windows from the ceiling of the department store have been placed in the walls round the central lounge and the swimming-pool. Beaming at us is a puddingshaped object on the floor. A real gem that in the heyday of Au Bon Marché served as a ceiling-light as pictures on the wall show us.
The other lamps and armatures are from Paris, too. The bathing-place is separated from the rest by what was originally a glass lift-shaft. Above the dome of the lift hovers like a wooden canopy.
The entry to the showers consists of sandblasted glass.
The magnificent bronze railings of the stairs and balustrades were designed by Edgar Brandt. The monumental wooden staircase with bronze banisters, leading to the relaxation room, once took the Parisian customers from one floor to the other.
